Hello Everyone, and Happy New Year to all. The river flow is around 250cfs. Navajo lake has turned-over, the water color is off gray-brown. Some moss of different flavors. The good news is the River is fishing good. The upper areas, upper flats to the spill way boundary has been fishing fair to good. Early am if there is nothing happening I suggest trying dark leeches, or wooly buggers, trailed by a red or orange #16-22 red larva's. Egg patterns also working for me very well. I like peachy king or golden nugget. about 9-10: am some days their has been a good midge hatch . I been using a # 24black or gray and black midge emerger's. If their gulping , look for the size, and color of the midge clusters, match it, and go head hunting.
The braids down to the Texas Hole is fishing good, using the same patterns as above. Main channel is good with big rainbows starting to stage for their spawn drive.
Texas hole to lower Flats has been fishing good to great. Above patterns, and big red larva's #16-18 early am. As the morning warms up and the midges start coming off, #22 black midge pupa's and emergers are the ticket. The colder the morning usually the more lethargic the fish will be. Light takes. My suggestion is to fish the deep water early am and as the day, and water temps rise fish the selves and flats wher the fish have moved in to warm themselves. A degree or two makes all the difference to the fish. The top of the holes, head of the pool will have fish holding tail-out riffle drops into the deeper water and along the current seams where the slow water meets the fast water.
Fishing has been good to great Death row to Crusher Hole, to end of Quality waters, There has been a good dark beatis hatch, and a very prolific midge hatch early pm to late afternoon.
Dark #20-22 beatis emerger's and #22-24 dark gray, or black midge pupas and emerger's. Eggs and leeches, and wooly buggers. Hope this report helps you get a tight line for the New Year.

I want to thank Bubba Smith from Fish heads for the great two days on the river. LOTS of fish were rolled and stuck on his Cartoon hopper and his midge patterns. Ya'll want a good time call Bubba!
