When I am sing that powerbait dough stuff for trout in particular, how do I use it? Does it float on the surface and I just let it float there? Do I use weights and a bobber with it or no, also do i just roll some into a ball and put it on the hook ?

Went back to Simon Point in the afternoon. Overall, it was slower. I hooked 9 and landed 6. There was one 16" according to my net and rest were smaller. I tried chocolate foam wing and the KF midge again but didn't catch a thing. I caught all fish on red stuff: larvae, annelids, red hot, etc. I didn't see many folks around me catch much other than small ones. Everybody was talking about using red stuff.

mbetter95,

Same here. My best fly has been a Red Larvae (#20 - #22) all Summer and Fall.

Any theories about the prolonged turbidity? Any increase in the inflow from the runoff over prior years?

kaya67,

Prolonged turbidity would definitely help the insect and overall health of the river. Right now we are seeing a lot of sediment and the insects (midges) are getting smaller. There are fewer mayfly harches due to the sediment.

Prolonged turbidity would be great, but we have been in a drought situation for the past 2 years. There has not been a Sping Flush for the past 2 years.

The BOR is currently in a "Conservation" mode for Navajo Dam. Last year, Navajo Lake looked like it was 20-30 feet below normal. This year looks better, but the BOR is still trying to fill up Navajo Dam and get it back to a normal level. Recent summer rains have helped, but Navajo Lake is still down.

Hope for a good snow pack up in the San Juan mountains this winter.

Vinny
