River Habitat Improvement Project The Bureau of Reclamation will be decreasing the release from Navajo Reservoir from 500 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 250 cfs, at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005. The release is being reduced to assist in a trout habitat improvement project on the San Juan River approximately 3 miles downstream of the dam. The project is a joint effort between several agencies and will consist of using boulders to construct 13 individual in-stream structures in the river. The project is anticipated to be completed by December 21, 2005, after which time the release will be increased back to 500 cfs. If you have any questions on the trout habitat improvement project, please contact John Hansen with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Farmington, NM at (505) 599-6325. Note the structure locations in the diagram below. This area is just up river from the end of the quality waters near the gravel pit and extends up river just below and behind where the Durangler's shop used to be. Many thanks to Pat Page for sharing this picture with us!!!
